KADONNUT : 1 / MISSING: One

Viime Lontoon matkalla syksyllä löysin ihanan kaupan Thamesin rannalta Southwarkista: Intaglio Printmaker. Sieltä löytyi 30 x 40 cm kokoisia japanilaisia kaksipuolisia vinyylin/ linoleumin palasia. Kannoin ne kotiin laukussani, vaikka Intagliolla on hyvä verkkokauppa. Tuntui niin arvokkaalta löytää tavallista linolevyä hiukan isompi koko. Vasta nyt aloin suunnitella yhden vinyylilevyn kaiverrusta. Pispalan portaat innostavat edelleen. Nyt aiheeksi putkahti portaiden kaiteeseen kiinnitetty ilmoitus kadonneesta kissasta. Ensimmäinen yllätys oli se, että lyijykynän jälki ei näkynytkään tummalla vinyylillä, joten luonnos oli piirrettävä levylle tussilla.

During my recent trip to London last autumn I found a lovely shop by the Thames in Southwark: Intaglio Printmaker. I found there 30 x 40 cm sized double sided Japanese vinyl / linoleum pieces. I carried them home in my bag, even though Intaglio has a very fine web shop. It felt so precious to find  the bigger than normal size piece of vinyl. Only now I started to plan carving one of these pieces. The Pispala steps inspire me still. Now as a theme popped out on the handrailing fluttering flyer of a missing cat. The first surprise was that the marking of a pencil was not visible on the dark surface of the vinyl, so I had to draw the draft with Indian ink.
